Mackinaw City hotel owners agree to stop deceptive practices

The investigation into the businesses was prompted by consumer complaints that alleged customers would book rooms at one hotel, which would be advertised as available, but were in fact closed and no notice was issued to the customer. The investigation conducted by the AG’s Corporate Oversight Division determined the hotels were advertised through a website, the “Mackinaw City Chamber of Tourism,” which is owned and operated by people who also had ownership interests in hotels.
